Fontanar in Spain

From 1842 with 213 inhabitants to 1991 with 762, Fontanar has shown rapid growth in the last 20 years with now approx. 2,250 inhabitants. The municipality of Fontanar close to the provincial capital of Guadalajara has benefited greatly from Spain’s economic development. A typical residential development with many terraced and detached houses has developed around the old village square. The establishment of some reputable companies using the geographical proximity with the direct motorway to the Spanish capital city of Madrid approx. 65km away as well as many smaller suppliers have encouraged the positive development of Fontanar in central Spain.

Historically, Fontanar has always been influenced by the provincial capital of Guadalajara. Romans, Moors and later the Spanish noble houses have all left their mark on the region.
